Downtown Washington, D.C. Business Improvement District (BID) extended the Landmark Development of the Year Award to Midtown Center for its contribution to making Downtown D.C. an outstanding destination.
Oliver Carr III, CEO of Carr Properties, comments: “We are delighted that Midtown Center has been recognized by the BID as a transformative development project. We believe that with its unique design, welcoming public space and close to 50,000 square feet of dynamic street retail, Midtown Center will reenergize the center of the city.”
Designed by New York-based SHoP Architects, the 865,000 SF building boasts unique features such as a stunning European style square offering a green oasis amidst downtown’s concrete jungle under three suspended bridges that connect two full-height curtainwall towers with copper cladding. Midtown Center is also ushering a fresh concept for Washington D.C.’s retail and commercial office experience and is poised to become one of the city top dining destinations. Inspired by the historic L’Enfant Plan, Midtown’s expansive 45,000 SF Plaza offers access to a unique mix of formal and informal dining. The lineup of top-notch retail includes the recently opened Oakland-based coffee retailer Blue Bottle and an array of high-end restaurants including, Dauphine’s, a New Orleans ‘grande dame’ style multi-level restaurant; Shōtō and Akēdo by renowned restaurateur Arjun Waney; and Philotimo, a Greek concept by Michelin Star Chef Nicholas Stefanelli.
Each year, The Washington, D.C. BID acknowledges the contribution of individuals and organizations to BID’s efforts in making Downtown D.C. a first-class destination. The BID issues awards in the following categories: Downtown Person-of-the-Year Award, Public Sector Person, Project or Program Award, Private Sector Person, Project or Program Award, Partnership/Program Award, Landmark Development Project Award, Downtown Detail Award, and Downtown Experience Award (voted on by the public).
